Visual Ranking Project Name
Animals that help humans.
Project Description
Animals have always played a part in the lives of people. They have been pets, providers and protectors. On farms, in airports and during war time there are many examples of animals helping humans. Our class chickens are helpful in the school community by providing eggs for cooking and compost for the Community Garden. We will brainstorm the different animals that have helped humans throughout the past 100 years. Then we will hold a multi-vote to determine the top 10 ‘helpful’ animals. These animals will then be ranked from most to least helpful. We can choose the most helpful animal to humans over the past century.
Prompt
Rank which animal(s) have been the most helpful to humans over the past 100 years? Consider their overall impact on human life.
Sorting List
As a whole class we will brainstorm the different animals that have helped humans throughout the past 100 years. Then we will hold a multi-vote to determine the top 10 ‘helpful’ animals.
Great project ideas which match the CFQs and the outcomes. Well on the way.

Seeing Reason Tool - Monday 23rd February
The practice map that I made using the Seeing Reason tool will be useful in my unit as it poses the question, How has electricity affected life in the home?. This is a rewording of the initial question as it was too broad and I found it difficult to focus on the details of the question. This activity will be used as a pre and post assessment - assessing student's learning over the course of the unit.
SOSE outcomes 2.1 and 2.3 will be addressed using this tool as it requires an analysis of humans lives and an examination of information from a range of sources about people in different periods of time.
Through revisiting the tool myself I found that my original thinking was challenged and I was required to edit both factors and relationships. This learning was also enhanced through discussion with a colleague and I will ensure that this task is undertaken by students working in pairs.
I imagine that I will be editing this map again before using it in the classroom.
